Biblical faith involves trusting in God’s nature, character, and promises. It’s more than intellectual assent to a set of doctrines—it’s relational. Hebrews 11:1 defines faith as “the assurance of things hoped for, the conviction of things not seen.” This highlights that faith is rooted in a confident hope in God’s unseen, yet guaranteed, promises.
Biblical faith is not something humans can produce on their own; it is a gift from God. Ephesians 2:8-9 explains that “For by grace you have been saved through faith. And this is not your own doing; it is the gift of God, not a result of works, so that no one may boast.” This means that even the capacity to believe is initiated by God’s grace, enabling individuals to respond to Him.
Faith allows believers to see beyond the physical world and the present moment. 2 Corinthians 5:7 says, “For we walk by faith, not by sight.” Faith enables Christians to trust in God’s promises and providence even when circumstances are uncertain. It is a form of spiritual vision that sees the unseen realities of God’s kingdom and the future hope of glory.
